Scout is Back! Meet the Terra and the Traveler

After a multi-year wait, Scout Motors has finally revealed its concept vehicles, and the results are pretty darn promising. The Scout brand will bring an electric pickup truck and SUV to market starting in 2027. The truck is called the Terra, while the SUV gets the Traveler name. While it’s great to see the brand lean into the past regarding its model names, I really like that Scout is also ready to bring truly tough trucks into this space.

Each vehicle is a body-on-frame machine with a solid rear axle. Scout says its trucks can be equipped with a disconnecting front swaybar, will have mechanical front and rear lockers, and can deliver as much as 1,000 lb-ft of torque via a dual-motor setup. Additionally, there’s talk of more than one foot of ground clearance and the ability to ford about three feet of water. Oh, and the trucks can run from 0 to 60 mph in about 3.5 seconds.

Design-wise, these clearly take some cues from what Rivian has produced in the electric truck space. Still, there are clear differences as well. And I can truly see some heritage-inspired work in that profile shot of the Traveler. Inside, it’s fancier than I expected, which isn’t a bad thing. Also, seeing actual buttons and knobs is always a good thing.

On the range side of the equation, Scout claims we can expect 350 miles on a charge. That’s a strong number. Equally strong are the towing and payload figures. Both vehicles can handle 2,000 pounds of payload. The Traveler is rated to tow 7,000 pounds, while the Terra can handle up to 10,000 pounds. Of course, if you do plan on towing there will be a range hit. That’s why it’s pretty solid news that Scout will offer a version with a gas-engine range extender. This boosts your driving range to over 500 miles, and it also means you can fill up at a charging spot or a gas station.

Even better? The range extender system is called the Harvester.

Scout says it will begin production of the trucks at its South Carolina plant in 2027. The starting price for each vehicle is said to be under $60,000. Scout says with incentives, the price can drop to just over $50,000. It’s a shame that 2027 is so far away because these look pretty great right now. If you agree, Scout has opened its reservation system, so you can raise your hand and say you want one by placing a refundable $100 deposit at ScoutMotors.com.
